Grenache 2015
Grenache 2015
Grown in Spain. Made in London.
At a Glance
Aromatic and floral, with notes of dried roses, red fruits and spice. This wine is made from organic grapes grown on 90-year-old vines at 1000m altitude in central Spain. It was gently vinified in our London winery, with a focus on elegance rather than extraction. Gresham St was aged in neutral oak barrels to preserve the delicate aromas of the grape variety. Drink with hearty game pie and buttered spring greens.

In Depth
The grapes for this wine were grown high up in the south of the Sierra de la Viergen mountain range in Calatayud, Spain, on exposed, south-facing slopes of iron-rich red schist soil on 90-year-old vines. The vineyard’s position at an awe-inspiring 1,000m altitude makes for wonderfully cool evenings that elongate the growing season giving the grapes a concentrated flavour and fresh, natural acidity. The grapes were fermented in open-top stainless steel tanks, with around 20% left as whole bunches; the inclusion of stems adds heady aromatic qualities, as well as improving the tannic profile of the wine. Once pressed the wines settle for up to three days to remove solids, before being transferred to older French oak barrels for ageing. Older barrels have less oak character, so the pure varietal character of Grenache is able to shine. The final wine has a delicate, floral aroma with an elegant palate that should age beautifully for a decade or more.
